Alfa Model Spitfire Mk. V

Alfa Model Spitfire Mk. V

 Technical data

  • wing span: 32-1⁄2 inch
  • length: 27-1⁄4 inch
  • wing area: 186 sq. inch
  • max. weight: 15.5 oz
  • controls: elevator, ailerons, motor

Alfa Model continue to expand their range of electric powered foam aircraft by adding the iconic Spitfire Mk.V.

The Spitfire Mk. V was created by installation of the Merlin 45 of 1080 kW (1470 HP) into the Mk. I airframe, with the purpose to provide capability to operate at higher altitudes, where a stronger activity of enemy aircraft was expected.. The armament of the Mk. Va and Mk. Vb was the same as with the Mk. I. In the Mk. Vc's wing could take four cannon, or two cannon and up to four machine guns. The Spitfire Mk. V became one of the most numerous version of the Spitfire.

The decal sheet allows you to build a number of different Mk.V’s that were flown by a number of European pilots.

The model is not intended for beginners, but its aileron and elevator controls as supplied in the base version should not present any problems to a modeler sufficiently experienced with flying the elevator and rudder control models - e.g. slow-flyers.

The more experienced modelers may enhance the model further by modifying the vertical tail by making the rudder controllable and installing a retractable undercarriage.

The flight properties and performance of the scale Spitfire are nearing those of much larger models, providing a much more colourful flying experience.

Features:

  • It is supplied almost ready to fly. Upon its assembly you need to only apply decals, install the powerplant and RC equipment.
  • It is made of polystyrene with hardened surface layer, reducing its propensity to suffer from surface scratches. Atop of that all exposed surfaces are protected by plastic sheathing. Thanks to the advantageous weight/strength ratio of the material used the model is quite sturdy and a risk of its damage in normal flying is very low.
  • A maximum attention was devoted to the aerodynamics of the model (e.g. a semi-symmetric wing section and a symmetric section of the horizontal tail were used, etc.), that provide for its extraordinarily high aerodynamic finesse, the wide range of usable airspeeds and fine flight characteristics usually seen with large models.
  • The range of the suitable and tested powerplants enables to build a scale model with flight performance that on one side may imitate the best slow-flyers, on the other the best aerobatic models.
  • Any normal RC equipment suitable for a slow-flyer suffices to control the model; most aerobatic figures may be flown with it (with the exception of those that need the rudder control).
